Rogue Builders Misusing Logos – Do Your Homework!

I'd always urge people using any service to do their homework, rather than taking a company at face value.  However trades seem to have been gaining an untrustworthy reputation in the last few years.  This image is partly the blame of rogue tradesmen.  Some of whom con their customers into believing they are a reputable company by misusing the logos of regulatory bodies.  Regulatory bodies that they have no affiliation with whatsoever! One such rouge builder faces jail after deceiving customers out of thousands of pounds. The NICEIC's magazine "Connections" claims that a tradesman from Blackburn, pleaded guilty to 17 ...

We Listen to Your Customer Service Hates

I'm constantly trying to keep up with the market and what our customers want/expect from us in regards to customer service, after all without you there is no business! After reading a recent article in Which? (one of our endorsements through their trusted trader scheme),  it became clear that call centres based abroad, automated phone systems and rude staff are some of your big customer service bugbears. Almost half of the 3,690 UK customers that Which? contacted disliked non-UK call centres. "They continually use staff in foreign call centres who are reading off cue cards and not listening to the ...

Condition Reports & Why You Need Them

Okay, so we've just completed an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) for a seller of a property.  With everything the customer had to do in preparation for the sale of their property, this was just another hurdle, another cost! This prompted me to think, "why has this not already been done on a regular basis.  Surely if it was, they would not be panicking to get it done at the last minute. Furthermore they wouldn't have as many nasty faults and defects". The answer I came up with was education, there seems to be very little being done to educate ...

Earthing & Bonding Explained

So you have called an electrician to provide you with a quotation on a couple of small electrical jobs around your property.  Problem is you are now being told that "your electrical bonding needs upgrading" in order to do the work. There is a serious lack of publicity in the public sector regarding periodic electrical inspections.  As a result of this there are many installations that have been unchecked for years.  When attending these installations we, as electricians often find that earthing and bonding, amongst other things are inadequate.  This can often be frustrating when a client is looking for small ...
